Understanding Apple IDs

Wood County Schools’ Educators use two different Apple IDs. Each one allows educators to tap into the vast resources available for their classroom instruction via instructional apps and 200 gigabytes of iCloud storage.

Here is the difference between the two:

Mangaged Apple ID (YourEmail@wood.k12.wv.us)

  • A managed Apple ID gives educators 200 gigabytes of storage space in Apple’s iCloud. It does not give access to the App Store or iTunes.
  • Apple Classroom Syncing Across Devices

Professional Apple ID (regular Apple ID account setup using YourEmail@k12.wv.us)

  • A professional Apple ID gives educators access to the App Store.

Why would I use both?

Using both IDs on an iPad, for example, gives you 200 gigabytes of storage and access to the App Store. Also, Wood County Schools, beginning summer of 2021, will begin using Apple School Manager to utilize syncing. This will allow educators to setup their classes in Apple Classroom prior to students attending class. It will also allow these classes to sync between iPads and MacBooks that are both signed in to iCloud with the managed Apple ID.

Where do I sign-in with each ID?

Mangaged Apple ID

To use your managed Apple ID for added storage on an iPad, go to “settings,” and choose your name.

Sign-in in the right-hand column. If you are already signed in with another ID, you may need to first sign-out.

Professional Apple ID

To use your professional Apple ID for App Store and iTunes purchases, also go to “settings.”

Scroll down the left-hand column and choose “iTunes & App Store.”

Sign-in in the right-hand column.

  4. Create a secure password. It must have eight or more characters, upper and lowercase letters, and at least one number.
  5. Choose and answer security questions.
  6. Type characters in image prior to clicking “continue” at the bottom of the page.

To finish this process, check your k12 e-mail for a verification e-mail from Apple.

Creating a Professional Apple ID

Have no idea what your Managed Apple ID password is?

Did you forget your Managed Apple ID password? Contact your building’s TSS and ask for a “Managed Apple ID password reset.”

You can also send a request here but please understand that it is not an automatic process so requests will be filled as time allows. The new temporary password will be sent to your k12 email address. Also, for security purposes, you must submit your k12 address. All other email addresses will be ignored.
