The Human Body

Discover what we’re made of and how we work. Every part is animated and interactive: the heart beats and the lungs breathe. Designed for curious kids of all ages to play and learn.

Journeys of Invention ($16.99)

Pick up and play with some of the most extraordinary objects in the history of science and technology. This app brings to life priceless objects from the Science Museum in London and tells their stories. With Journeys of Invention you can study, rotate and even operate some of the most revolutionary scientific inventions of all time. Step inside the Apollo 10 Command Module, examine a flea with Robert Hooke’s 17th-century microscope, explore the Large Hadron Collider, or even encode a secret message with a World War II Enigma Machine and share it with your friends to decipher. The app features original and insightful history specially written by Science Museum curators with a rich collection of historic photographs, rarely seen contemporary artworks, archive film footage and video. This spectacular collection of museum gems is presented in a spell-binding interactive network of inventions, making it effortless to journey back and forth through time. Learn about the darker side of science on the ‘Dangerous’ journey. Choose ‘Horizons’ for dramatic tales of exploration. For a different take on the history of science and technology, try ‘Atoms and Rays’ or ‘The Secret of Life’. Created by experts from the Science Museum in partnership with Touch Press (the wizards behind acclaimed apps The Elements and Solar System), Journeys of Invention is a wonderful guide for anyone with an interest in science, technology and discovery.

Molecules by Theodore Gray ($9.99)

Molecules by Theodore Gray is the extraordinary sequel to The Elements, the bestselling book and app. It continues the story of the elements to show how they are assembled into the rich diversity of compounds, chemicals, molecules, rocks, and stuff that make up our world. The app includes an important world first: a touch-interactive molecular dynamics simulation that lets you poke and prod hundreds of different molecules, seeing how each one reacts to your touch. Molecules are not static things – they twist, turn, vibrate, and spin in an elaborate and beautiful dance of quantum mechanics. The app incorporates the NAMD simulation engine developed by the Theoretical and Computational Biophysics Group at the University of Illinois. These are serious, scientifically accurate simulations. A few minutes playing with them will give you a deeper intuition about the true nature of molecules than years of study on paper. And while they are serious science, they are also a whole lot of fun to play with! In addition to the amazing wiggling molecules, the app contains the entire book of Molecules, with all the objects interactively rotatable so you can see them from all sides. Going further than The Elements, the app includes dozens of innovative and intriguing “still life videos” that reveal the true nature of substances through close-up interactive video.

Size Wise

Explore ratios and proportions while making funny pictures that make things look wildly bigger and smaller than they really are. Educators can inspire learners to explore and use mathematical concepts from coordinate geometry, angles, rotations and translations as they make animations from simple dance moves to complex scenes. Star Chart

Using state of the art GPS technology, an accurate 3D simulation of the visible universe, and a great deal of technical wizardry, Star Chart calculates – in real time – the current location of every star, planet and moon visible from Earth and shows you precisely where they are; even in broad daylight!

WWF Free Rivers

WWF Free Rivers puts an entire landscape in your hands. Through this immersive, augmented reality experience, you’ll discover a river that flows through the lives of people and wildlife, and how their homes depend on those flows. Dam the river to see what happens, and then try different options for sustainable development that keeps the river healthy and flowing. Collect stories of people and animals along the way!
